 Daddy Legs
« Thread Started on Sept 11, 2007, 12:48pm »

Just been playing with my new tool, had it down to less than 5 seconds per leg when I got into the rhythm. It was taking longer to seperate the fibres than it was to knot them.

If that is one of those damned bloody latch hooks that the carp men use. I bought one last week and try as I might I cannot get the barbs to knot. With this in mind I went back to knotting them by hand. if anybody wants a slightly used tool let me know and it's yours with my compliments.

I cast the fly into the void and waited with breath abated. The line tightened I heard the splash. Damn I've fallen in again!!!

Thank you Bob, it was your post on FFF that prompted me to try it. Just found the original from Bob. 8-)

I tried to knot goose biots by hand for an hour last week, in the end I gave up. Just done these in less than a minute.

OK, I'll ask the question. Why do you need to knot goose biots?

That daft little tool ain't getting the better of 'Big And Daft' of St. Helens. I shall go away a little later and upon my return I shall be knotting like erm.....erm.....erm.....somebody out of that Notting Hill film or the Knotts Landing Soap Opera. I think I'm getting cabin fever :o

Ron,

as soon as a product like this hits the pegs in a tackle shop, somehow the price automatically inflates itself as gets named as an angling tool!

As you say, and Tango earlier, a sewing supplies or craft shop is where to go.

You could of course go for the bling.

Think I'll stick to the £1.40 one. ;) Double knotted... no problem, offset, just twist the other way on the second knot.

I nearly bought on of those thingies. Very well engineered, but my wallet just wouldn't let me part with £40, just to tie a few daddy legs.

£1.40 is more like it .......... though I was doing pretty well with the wifes crochet hook!

Bought one of these ages ago and the thing ended up across the room. Will have to discipline myself and give it another try.

I was robbed .......... mine cost £1.75!!!

And it was an infuriating little tool that defied all reasonable efforts to tie a knot. Next stop, into my workshop, hold in my very large engineering vice and twist the handle to crush!

Just in the nick of time, I did a knot correctly and just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I now have half a pheasant tail of "daddy legs".

The vice is still on standby if the tool misbehaves itself again!

I must admit to getting lazy in my old age as sometimes I use a lot of these legs, many years ago I tied up a batch of 200 daddies for a firm, that's 6 x 2 knots x 200. it was a lot of work before any of them got even near the vice. So these days I'll admit to buying the legs ready tied on a "stick" to save time.
